St. John's History

A church is an ever evolving place, different as different people lead and populate it. At the same time, the fact that a church, our church, has a unique history adds a dimension that colors contemporary experience of life and worship here. While the history of the The Church of St. John the The Evangelist is not thoroughly chronicled, it can be assumed that it has a life now that is other than its life when its cousin, Bard College, was an Episcopal pre-seminary, St. Stephens, as it was until a few years prior to the Second World War.

What we present here is the contents of a short history compiled in 1964 on the occasion of the 90th Anniversary of St. John's. It contains valuable understandings about the years when the church was formed, as well as stories and pictures of the year it was written.

Click on the image at the right of the cover of 90th Anniversary Souvenir Booklet to review its twelve pages of text and images.
